Look & Feel:

Truth we say in court truth wins. Really is truth important for delivering justice or the created truth gives us a feeling that justice has been delivered. Is it right to follow the path of heart of listen to the head. Does path of heart gives you liberation or it is just an entry to the hell. The show Criminal justice beautifully deals with all these complex questions through the journey of its protoganist Aditya Sharma.

Aditya who ends up in a difficult situation on a fateful night realizes quite belatedly there is none to hear his story of truth of what happened that night.

On one side police team has got their bakra and are preparing the case in such a way so that he gets maximum punishment. On other side his defense lawyer Mandira wants just to know enough so that she can win the case for her client. In this game of give and take Aditya voice gets subdued and he is forced to tolerate the harsh jail where he befriends Mustafa who offers him protection for a price.

When Mandira decides she want win the case for Aditya she bargains a deal for him. She asks him to plead guilty in court for a lenient sentence. Everyone agrees thats the best option for Aditya because if he does that his family will be saved from ordeal. But supported by Mandira assistant Nikath Aditya pleads not guilty in court. That decision sends him straight to hell with a life sentence as Nikat is unable to win the case for him. His family suffers and his sister's marriage breaks. The second half of story deals with whether Aditya's decision to plead not guilty was right or wrong. Did the heart tell him the right thing that he didnt murder that girl that day.

Nikhat supported by the crack pot lawyer Madhav Mishra who believes Aditya is innocent goes on a journey to find the truth. The truth to give the justice to Sanaya Rath the girl whose murder Aditya is accused of.

What sets apart Criminal Justice is it doesnt have black and white characters. It deals with humans, it deals with grey. Madhav Mishra knows Aditya is innocent but that doesnt make him not want to make a deal with Nikhat for the information he gives. Mustafa gives protection to Aditya but yes he takes his price. Nikat suggests path of heart but it requires a Madhav to bring her back to make a reappeal. So every character has human weakness and human strength.

Criminal justice also show the societal perceptions and how badly the society deals with the vulnerable family of a criminal. How their personal grief is used to get two minute fame in a TV channel. It also deals with how the lack of proper investigation can make a simple person's life hell, can even take him to the verge of being a criminal and destroy his family, his life while the real criminals enjoy somewhere else.

It also deals with how important an proper investigation is because how much correction happens later you cant take away the scars you give on an innocent. Yes justice is not about winning battles it is about winning war. Where it is not about getting someone punished or someone acquited. It is about going for the truth so that the victim soul rest in peace and the criminal or rather the real criminal goes to hell.
