Go for it only after getting feedback from users. Review on Reliance Broadnet Broadband

I see many negative reviews for this product. To be perfectly honest, broadband internet is a dicey product to use anywhere in India. The speed, I guess, depends on the number of users and the local infrastructure. An Internet Service Provider will build a good infrastructure, especially fiber optic cables or mobile towers( for wireless internet ) only if there is  a heavy demand in the said area. Which brings us to the Catch 22 situation, where the number of subscribers become huge and the speed becomes painfully slow.

I have seen some of my friends use high speed broadband that are worse than EDGE networks in terms of speed. Fortunately, my area has decent speed until now with Reliance Broadnet. I guess people living in the heart of Kolkata (I stay in the outskirts) may have similar bitter experiences.

The one trouble that I do face with this Reliance connection is connectivity. The modem takes unusually long time to be ready, till then the computer shows "Network not connected" message. This was  proving to be headache, even after 1 service request.

The main reason I am writing this review is to suggest a workaround that I have stumbled upon. I bought a LAN to usb adaptor ( cost about 200/250 bucks) and instead of using the modem, I directly plugged the WAN cable into the RJ45 ethernet port in this adaptor( tried to plug in directly to the ethernet port in my PC, but it didn't work out) and tried to connect to the internet. Voila! It worked like a charm. I guess the modem provided by Reliance is cheap and old which is probably recycled between customers.
