We had been on a trip to Gangtok and Darjeeling from September 19-25, 2009, through Hammock Holidays, Bangalore. We were two families, including 2 senior citizens, a 4-year old and one 2-year old.
We stayed at Hotel Chumbi Residency on Tibet road. Rooms were comfortable. Room service was good. The view of Kanchandzonga from the hotel rooms and lobby, is amazing. The lobby is on the 4th floor and the restaurant in the basement. So you will get a good walk for every meal.
The dishes were tasty but the rice was terrible. It was like the rice was frozen before cooking. The rooms were comfortable with hot water throughout the day. There were lot of shops nearby. We went to Hotel Tibet near the GPO, for a change. Excellent food. You must have their (hand-made) noodle soup and the sikkimese food. MG Marg is just five minutes away by walk. The market is nearby. On the whole, the stay at Chumbi residency was very good.
