The baby and the toy..

Once upon a time, there lived a baby who was a happy-go-lucky one.. :)

The baby befriended everyone he found pleasant enough, everyone he spend a considerable amount of time with, and everyone regardless of what he was like in his real life.

Everyone liked to be around the baby, hold him and cuddle him. The baby loved being protected, kissed and pampered. The baby enjoyed the attention.

Everyone who played with him and treated him well was dear to him. He trusted these faces easily. Everyone was so like one another. All of them were big, belonging to bodies much larger to him and staring down at him with friendly and appreciative eyes.

The world was such a wonderful little place for the baby. He loved his environment, and wanted it to remain that way. In a quest for making life even better for him and the people around, he started working hard. In the process, he was hurt by the same people he trusted and cared for and wanted to be with.

The baby developed a scar, and became careful and prudent and conscious. He took calculated steps. He became moody and melancholic and a pessimist. The baby became a sad little entity.

And then, the baby came in contact with someone he thought he could trust. The person loved baby dearly and cuddled him and gave him a lot of toys to play with. The baby cooed and laughed to his heart's content and enjoyed the toys and his new company.

He loved all the toys, but one he developed a fascination for was a laughing monkey. Not an hour passed when the baby stayed without it, and carried the toy along with him to his bed after dark.

However, it wasn’t long before the baby realized that the toy was broken. The baby was surprised, as it was unexpected for him. How did the toy, that entertained him day and night, have a defect that he wasn’t aware of?

He looked around for his friend, but he was nowhere to be found. The baby called out his name several times, but he did not any get any response.

The baby was disappointed. He missed his friend. Wasn’t it possible for him to come back and hold him in his arms once again and replace the toy with another? The baby waited and waited and spent sleepless nights. Time went by. But there was no news of him.

The baby gave up. He still had the toy with him. He thought of throwing away the defective toy..

He looked at the toy. The monkey smiled even while the ‘Laugh’ button wasn’t pressed. He hit him. It made no effect on the monkey. It continued to smile.

The baby hit the toy in the face a couple of times more. The monkey didn’t feel sad. He took a closer look. The monkey seemed to enjoy the baby’s company.

The baby decided not to throw it away. Sometime later, he started liking it even more than before, and never slept unless he had the monkey in his arms.

The baby developed a bigger scar over a period of time. But that didn’t bother him as he had his best friend for company at all times. The monkey never complained, despite having a defect bigger than that of the baby.

And the laughter continued…
