I don't know how many of you have experienced the braces put on your beautiful teeth, when you were a kid. Unfortunately I have gone through that irritating phase. My sincere prayer to the God,nobody should get protruding front teeth, otherwise they have to gone through this same ordeal.
When I was in class 2,I feel down on a hard surface which caused profuse bleeding and a deep cut on my gum. My new front teeth came out through that gap. I looked like a rabbit,to other kids' amusement. Even the guardians started referring me as "that buck-toothed girl ". It was humiliating! I didn't care much, but mom didn't tolerate this. She took me to a dentist, who decided to put a brace on those teeth. It was not permanent,I was told. He took the measurement and sample on a plaster-of-Paris cast! Though it smelled of strawberries,I didn't like the experience at all. Every time he would ask me to open my mouth like the lid of a box and used to make critical calculations (god knows why so much calculation was needed every time)! The only good news was,the brace was detatchable. I was advised not to wear it while sleeping,in case I swallow any part of it accidentally!
The real dilemma started once it was fitted into my mouth. Whenever I tried to say something,it seemed half of the sentence would leak out through the gap betwwen the brace and my gum! Moreover,it made a sickly knocking sound which I didn't like at all! My friends started poking fun, life became miserable. Not a single girl in my class was wearing a brace,it was a topic of fun for most of them. Many days I slept off wearing it and had to get up half-choking! Uff,what an irritation! My friends had great time hiding the brace in different places each time, and I had to give them the bribe of cashew nuts to get back my valuable property! Our hostel warden was not aware that I detatch it while sleeping. She found it in detatched condition one day,and almost jumped out of her skin in fear. She thought that my gum came out with that brace! She created a ruckus and I had to assure her that my gum is in perfect shape! Oh god, what fun that single brace created that day,I just can't explain in words!
However, the effects were visible,my teeth came back in shape within few years. I was no more buck-toothed. I was able to close my mouth normally without showing much teeth. Finally the day came when I got rid of that irritating brace. But mom didn't throw it away, which I liked very much to do at the first chance. She kept it. Why? No reason.....I just don't know. May be it reminded her of a silent battle against people's snide remarks which we won eventually. But.....preserving a brace? Oh God,that's so much for me. I prefer to stay away from it...and hope I don't have to use it again! Once in a lifetime is enough, nobody will like to go through the similar experience!
